As your Ward 1 Council Person, I have priorities to see Rochester remain a safe, warm, and inviting place to be successful, across all stages of life. I look forward to using my skills in adaptive problem-solving and strong communication to be responsive to Rochester’s future.
It would be an honor to serve as your council person. My goal as your representative is to be responsive to your issues in a timely manner. I plan to respect your opinion openly, as well. My council person priorities are as follows:
Green space/City parks
My goal is to:
- Maintain our current parks and trails while striving to increase accessibility and connectedness to downtown activities
- Making improvements to continue to safely engage people in utilizing our wonderful green spaces
- Advocating for new developments to include public recreational space for families to gather and play.
Public safety
I will make sure our first responders are fully funded and have the resources available to best serve our community.
Accessible affordable housing
The council needs to anticipate the increased need of housing for our evolving workforce, seniors, and lower income citizens. As DMC evolves and continues to attract people to come to Rochester, our population is expected to grow, and we need to be prepared.
Transportation and downtown congestion
My focus is to reduce congestion downtown during high traffic hours by supporting the currently proposed Link Rapid transit System and other alternative methods for reducing congestion. Also, to makes sure our neighborhood streets receive the necessary maintenance for safe travel in all seasons.
DMC
Change is the only constant. Rochester is in a time of exciting change… I respect the vision set forth for DMC. A collaborative partnership with the State of Minnesota, Olmsted County, City of Rochester, Mayo Clinic, and a multitude of private investors. My goal on the council is to strive for balance with the goals of DMC, and maintain a voice for all the other businesses that shape our community. After all, the people that choose to build a family and/or a business here are what make Rochester. I will focus on preserving Rochester’s history as we embrace the change.
The city budget
I will keep the public notified of current spending through webpage updates. I will provide a watchful eye on the city budget to keep our taxes as low as possible while maintaining our current quality of life.
